Posted (4/2005): "The S-O-B method: a mnemonic for dualizing linear programming problems;" a talk by Mark Kayll of the University of Montana at NWNExT/MAA 2005 meeting. DISCRIPTION: Ten years ago, Art Benjamin published a memorable classroom note in SIAM Review, 37 (1995), pp. 85--87. (Here's a link to the paper.) In less than two pages, he reviewed LP duality and introduced a simple device to help anyone remember how to find the dual of any given linear programming problem. If they're not already doing so, linear optimization teachers will enjoy sharing Benjamin's 'S-O-B method' with their students.
